With the growing number of breweries in the Cincinnati area, there are more options than ever before for those who want to drink beer that's brewed here.

To help you keep track, here is a list of the "mainstays" – each area brewery's core beers; the ones that can typically be found in their tap rooms, at local bars or on store shelves. (Of course, many breweries change their offerings often and produce seasonal brews, so keep an eye out for those, too!)

How many of these local beers have you tried?

  • Wiedemann's Special Lager

Style: Bohemian-style pilsner

Brewery's description: A crisp and flavorful lager in the Bohemian tradition. It is relatively low alcohol compared to heavier craft beers and is brewed with several kinds of barley malt, including specialty pilsner and Munich malts that are used in many craft beers. True to the beer's Bohemian origins, a generous dose of aromatic Saaz hops provides a zesty finish that will have you thirsting for another round. 4.3 percent ABV.

  • Wiedemann's Royal Amber (will become a year-round beer in March, after Bockfest).

Style: Dortmunde-style lager

Brewery's description: A refreshing Dortmunder lager made with noble Tettnanger hops from Germany. Smooth and well-rounded, it's a tribute to the original Royal Amber made by Wiedemann in the 1960s and '70s as a super-premium beer (before there was craft, there was super-premium). The earlier version was rated the best beer in America in a national blind taste in the early 1970s. The recipe for the new Royal Amber picks up on that illustrious tradition. 5.4 percent ABV.
