Update, 6 a.m.: Power has been restored to the 1,000 remaining Duke Energy customers affected by a Tuesday outage.

The energy provider reported less than 140 outages on Wednesday morning for all of Hamilton County, according to its outage website.

Earlier report: Thousands of Duke Energy customers were affected by a power outage in Delhi Township Tuesday, according to the company's website.

A transmission line failed in a substation on Ebenezer Road at 5:01 p.m., said Sally Thelen, a Duke Energy spokeswoman.

At 6 p.m., more than 6,000 customers were without power.

Due to the hot weather, customers have to be moved to new circuits in small batches, she said. This has caused the outage to last longer than expected.

At 10:30 p.m., more than 1,000 were still without power.
