85 responders worked to free trapped worker

It took around 5 hours for 85 emergency responders from 22 different agencies to pull free a construction worker covered by dirt in a 12-foot deep trench in Southeast Indiana on Wednesday.

Officials were notified around 2:30 p.m. that a middle-age man was covered in dirt from the waist down in a trench on Greeley Avenue in Vevay, Ind.

Twenty-two entities from Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana worked with the Northern Kentucky Technical Rescue Team to pull the man from the trench, according to the Switzerland County Sheriff's Office.

After the man was freed, he was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital in stable condition.

Officials said that 85 emergency responders were assisting at the scene Wednesday afternoon.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
