Police investigate the scene where a man was wounded Monday in Carthage. They were called to the scene after reports of a shooting.

A man in his early 20s was hospitalized after being injured in the left side of his neck Monday afternoon in Carthage, police said.

Officers responded to reports of "shots fired" near the corner of West Seymour Avenue and Vine Street just before 4 p.m.

A man with a neck wound was discovered by police and taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to Cincinnati police Sgt. John Cunningham.

"He appears to be in stable condition," Cunningham said.

Due to a language barrier, police are unclear if the man was shot or suffered the injury due to another cause.

Witnesses to the incident reported hearing a loud bang and seeing people flee the scene, but at this time police do not have a description of any suspects.

West Seymour Avenue remained closed at Vine Street for more than hour after the incident.

No further details are available.
