Top Ohio Republican on Trump: comments not 'presidential'

CINCINNATI – One of Ohio's highest ranking Republicans said he could vote for GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump but he's not a fan of the real estate tycoon's approach toward immigration or women.

"If he's the Republican nominee, it's likely I'm going to support him," Ohio Senate President Keith Faber, R-Celina, told the Enquirer editorial board Monday. Faber supports Gov. John Kasich's bid to become the Republican nominee, campaigning with the governor in New England.

Faber said he doesn't agree with Trump on immigration, calling the frontrunner's approach "unworkable" or his treatment of women. Faber disapproved of Trump's disparaging comments about Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

"I thought what he said to Megyn Kelly was inappropriate," said Faber, adding that the actions weren't "presidential."

Still, Trump is hitting a nerve in the Republican Party, said Faber, who plans to run for statewide office in 2018, likely for auditor or attorney general.

"They want somebody who is going to take action. They want somebody who is going to make America great again," Faber said. "Whether he is ultimately that person, they are going to have to decide."
