Kennard gets honors, win at All American game
CHICAGO – McDonald's All American Game coaches raved about Luke Kennard's poise and ability on the court this week.
Those characteristics of the Franklin senior guard helped him to earn the Jack Daly Sportsmanship Award at halftime of Wednesday night's game at the United Center.
Kennard, a Duke signee, was one of 24 players nationally selected to play in the 38th annual McDonald's All American Boys Game.
Kennard finished with nine points, four rebounds and an assist as his East squad defeated West 111-91.
Kennard had a late assist with 25 seconds left and a two-handed dunk with nine seconds remaining.
Franklin supporters sat in section 121 of the United Center. Several wore Duke gear, including Franklin coach Brian Bales.
Kennard was truly an ambassador for the Wildcats, Bales said.
"It's special for our program and I am so proud of Luke," Bales said as he waited for Kennard to be introduced on the court before the game.
Kennard is the reigning two-time Associated Press Ohio Mr. Basketball winner.
He made a 3-pointer with 3:46 remaining in the first half to help give the East a 39-36 lead. That was his only shot attempt in the first half. He had three rebounds in the first half too.
Wednesday's game was televised on ESPN with former NBA players Jalen Rose and Jay Williams among the television personalities. Former Ohio State running back Eddie George was also in attendance.
Kennard is also scheduled to play in the Nike Hoop Summit April 11 at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, and the Jordan Brand Classic April 17 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
