Timeline: Violent week ends quietly Friday night

Police investigate the scene of Thursday's homicide in Bond Hill. No shootings were reported in Cincinnati overnight Friday.

Cincinnati police reported a quiet night Friday and early Saturday morning after a week where at least 10 shootings were reported in the Cincinnati area.

While shootings in the city reached a 10-year high in May, no shootings were reported overnight in the city, police said.

The last shooting in Cincinnati was reported at 3 a.m. Friday in Sycamore Township, where a man was shot in the leg.

A timeline from a violent week

Monday, May 25

  • 10:30 p.m.-- A man was shot in the leg in Over-the-Rhine. The man is expected to recover.

Tuesday, May 26

  • 11:30 a.m. -- Gunmen opened fire on I-75 in Lockland and shot two people. Callers told dispatchers that the gunmen were "shooting at anybody that was in sight."
  • 3:00 p.m. -- A 15 year old was shot and killed in Walnut Hills. Hamilton County Job and Family Services said the teen was on a home pass and missing from the facility he was in.
  • 10:30 p.m. -- A man was shot in the leg in a drive-by shooting in Westwood. Police said the argument could have stemmed from an earlier altercation.

Wednesday, May 27

  • 9:30 p.m. -- A 15-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man were shot in a drive-by shooting in Avondale. Police said the two were walking on the sidewalk when the shooting occurred.
  • 10:30 p.m. -- A man was shot inside a "bootleg" cab in Westwood. A 16-year-old boy was arrested the following day in connection with the shooting.

Thursday, May 28

  • 10:00 a.m. -- A man was shot to death in Bond Hill. Police said the man had been shot about a month earlier as well.
  • 5:00 p.m. -- A shooting was reported in the 6600 block of Betts Avenue in North College Hill. Limited information about the shooting was made available.

Friday, May 29

  • 12:30 a.m. -- A 30-year-old man was driven to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police believe that the shooting happened in Avondale.
  • 3:00 a.m. -- A man was shot outside of the Brownstone Night Club in Sycamore Township. Police expect the 34 year old who was shot in the leg to recover.

Reaction from city leaders

Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell spoke to media Thursday morning after the homicide in Bond Hill. Blackwell said he was "disappointed" and "upset" after the recent spike in violence.

Following controversial remarks made at the Walnut Hills council meeting, city officials, including Mayor John Cranley, said that Herold's remarks were "a mistake" from Thursday night. Herold told the media that her comments did not reflect her goal from the planned meeting.

Friday night, reports surfaced that Blackwell had been handed resignation papers twice, but chose to stay on the job. Blackwell told The Enquirer during a Friday night interview he doesn't aspire to leave Cincinnati, but added he won't stay if he isn't wanted.
