Rain for the Home Run Derby, sun for All-Star Game?

The temperature will be on its way to dropping to about 68 degrees before the concert starts.

Most Cincinnatians would probably trade some rain and clouds this week for clearer skies at Tuesday's Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and they might get their wish.

The National Weather Service's seven-day forecast now extends out to include Tuesday, the day of the 86th playing of the Midsummer Classic. As the forecast picture comes into focus, it's safe to say the seven-day outlook progressively improves as the week goes on.

How pleasant the weather is during next week's big events remains to be scene, but it definitely won't be as bad as what's forecast Wednesday.

A 60 percent chance of showers exists throughout Wednesday, and that's coupled with a 50 percent chance of rain during the evening and nighttime hours.

High temperatures are forecast to reach 78 and 82 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Cloudy skies and a chance of storms is forecast through the middle of the week.

By Friday, the chance of storms dips to 30 percent. Partly sunny skies will feature ahead of a showcase weekend for the area as All-Star Game activities ramp up.

ASG events forecast

The weather service's seven-day outlook provides long-view predictions for the first few All-Star Game events around the city.

Saturday - Color Run MLB All-Star 5K (9 a.m.), All-Star Concert featuring Ariana Grande (8 p.m., rain or shine event)

Saturday morning is shaping up pretty nicely for participants of the Color Run MLB All-Star 5K. The high could hit 88 degrees but that will be hours after the starting gun for the un-timed race.

Inclement weather isn't currently expected to threaten Saturday night revelers. By 5 p.m. the temperature will be on its way to dropping to a nighttime low of 68.

Sunday - MLB Futures Game, Legends and Celebrities Softball Game (3 p.m.)

It looks to be a hot one for the week's first event at Great American Ball Park as the weather service is calling for an 88-degree high temperature. There's also an outside chance of showers and storms.

Monday - Workout Day and the 2015 Home Run Derby

The forecast has improved markedly for Monday -- the percentage chance for showers and thunderstorms has dropped from 60 to 30 percent.

Still, rain remains in the forecast.

Past studies have noted the unpredictability of Greater Cincinnati's weather patterns, so there's plenty of time for the forecast to improve before the Derby begins.

Tuesday - 2015 MLB All-Star Game

For now, partly cloudy skies are forecast on the day of the big game. A high temperature of 84 degrees is also expected, the weather service said.
