Buy $20 T-shirt, help pay for streetcar

A look at the Cincinnati streetcar T-shirts went on sale for $20 each on Monday.

Every dollar counts in helping to run Cincinnati's beleaguered streetcar.

The city began selling streetcar T-shirts for $20 each on Monday morning. Half of the proceeds from each T-shirt sold will go toward helping to pay to run the streetcar, which is estimated to cost $4 million a year to operate.

The dark gray-colored shirts feature the streetcar's "C" logo screen-printed on the front. Over-the-Rhine-based AllScreen is handling T-shirt production, and shirts can be purchased at http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/streetcar/streetcar-shirts/

Last fall, the city began selling commemorative fare cards to help pay for the Downtown and Over-the-Rhine streetcar system.

Covering streetcar operating costs each year is an ongoing concern for Mayor John Cranley and some City Council members. The streetcar is scheduled to open to passengers in September 2016.
