Firefighters reach three children stranded on the "Python" roller coaster at Coney Island Sunday evening.

While more than 13,000 Duke Energy customers were without power Sunday evening, six riders on Coney Island's Python roller coaster felt the effect more than others.

Three adults and three children found themselves stuck on top of the ride around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, when Duke Energy reported a large power outage in Anderson Township.

Savannah Adkins, 8, of Anderson Township, said she was busy keeping a couple other riders calm at the top -- she thought the ride stopping seemed fun.

"We were going and then the electric went out," Adkins said. "But I was thinking that we were never going to get down in my head."

But Adkins was all smiles after firefighters got her safely to the ground.

A Cincinnati firefighter returns one of the stranded roller coaster riders to the ground Sunday evening at Coney Island.

Python did not need electricity to get the stuck car to the end of the track, but it stopped as an emergency precaution when the power failed, according to Coney Island operations manager Rob Morrison.

Coney Island closed early to the public after the power outage.

"Considering that our biggest attraction, the sunlight pool, cannot operate or filter without power, we made the decision to close early," Morrison said.

Morrison said that even though the park was only scheduled to remain open until 8 p.m., guests received rain checks to return on a future date.

Two of the Python's smallest riders, Giselle and Yelina Mojica, were the last to be rescued from the tracks.

"We were scared -- a little nervous," Yelina Mojica said. "I was telling them to be quiet because some people at the top were being all chit-chat-chit-chat."

When asked about the firefighters that carried them to safety both sisters shared the same single word.

"Awesome."
