Snow, cold combine to cause slick roads
It didn't snow a lot, but it snowed enough to cause major problems during the morning commute Monday.
And because of the cold temperatures, slick spots could remain throughout Monday evening.
It started raining Sunday night, and that turned into snow after midnight, leaving most Greater Cincinnati roads with at least a dusting of snow Monday morning.
Temperatures hovered in the 20s most of the morning, which meant those wet roads turned into icy roads.
A few areas in Butler County got more than 1 inch of snow, while areas in Hamilton County and Northern Kentucky received about a half inch, according to the National Weather Service.
It's not expected to get above freezing Monday. The weather service predicts a high around 30 degrees around 4 p.m.
About 0.7 inches of snow was recorded in Clermont County's Goshen Township, according to the weather service, and a half inch of snow was recorded near Cheviot in Hamilton County.
A half inch of snow also was recorded in Kenton County's Independence and 0.4 inches was recorded at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Boone County, according to the weather service.
After sunny skies on Tuesday and Wednesday, there is a chance for freezing rain and snow Wednesday and Thursday night.
The week ahead:
Tuesday: High temperatures near 31 and overnight low of 17 degrees. Cloudy before mostly sunny skies in the afternoon.
Wednesday: High near 36 and low around 29. There is a 30 percent chance for snow and rain overnight.
Thursday: Overnight snow turns into rain as temperatures warm up. High near 45 degrees. Low around 28 with another chance for snow and rain Thursday night.
Friday: Partly sunny with a high near 36 and a low near 25.
